Summer Pillow Style Guide

Summer Pillow Style Guide

If you are looking for a quick, inexpensive way to update your space, your pillows are a great place to start. New patterns, textures and colors can give your room a whole different feel. Choosing the right designs isn’t always easy. To help you transform your space try using this summer pillow style guide.
-
Use a cohesive color palette
Below are some great color combinations.  Summer is a great time to use a blue and yellow or grey and yellow combination.  These can work year-round and will give your space a calm feel. If you want something a little bolder, navy and orange or navy and sea-foam green are great nautical and beachy looks.

Mix and Match
The simplest way to pair pillows is with a solid color and any kind of print or pattern. You can easily pull a color from your patterned pillow onto a solid one.

Another pairing tip is to choose two similar, small patterns.  It’s very important to have a matching color palette here, if not it could end up looking like your toddler did the decorating.

Finally, try a simple pattern with something busier.  This technique should be left to the adventurous. Not only is it important to match your colors here but also the style and, in some cases, texture.

Don’t over do it
Your home is supposed to be a relaxing place so don’t go overboard by adding too many pieces.  Depending on the size of your couch or chair 2-4 pillows, in pairs of 2, should cover it. If you have a longer couch try 2 on one side and 3 on the other (see bonus tip to help you with this more).

Bonus Tip

Try using different sizes.  A large solid or simple pattern looks great behind a smaller bold print (or vice versa).  Throw pillows come is so many shapes and sizes now it’s easy to find great pieces that work together.

Wish on the Sky - Inspiration of a Painting

Wish on the Sky - Inspiration of a Painting

Wish on the Sky is an oversized abstract landscape painting done in acrylics on a gallery wrapped canvas.  It is a semi-abstract landscape painting measuring 36”x36”x2”.

The use of cool colors gives this work an overall cool feel. The white and cool blues of the leaves suggest a winter scene and a fresh coat of snow. The specks of white float around the canvas as if someone has just blew on the tree to make a wish. The sky moves from a light, daytime to a darker nightscape - almost as if a storm is coming in - or blowing away.
-
My hope is that the viewer makes their wish, To feel hopeful and look optimistically towards a brighter future. Move away from the dark stormy night and head towards the sunny sky ahead.
